To apply sunscreen the right way, start by choosing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Apply it generously to all exposed skin about 15 to 30 minutes before going outside, giving it time to absorb and start protecting your skin. Don’t forget often-missed areas like your ears, neck, the tops of your feet, and the back of your hands. Use about a shot glass worth (roughly one ounce) for your whole body and a nickel-sized amount for your face. Wait 15 minutes for the sunscreen to be absorbed by your skin before you go outside. Reapply every two hours, or more often if you’re swimming, sweating, or towel-drying. Even on cloudy days or in winter, consistent sunscreen use is key to protecting your skin from premature aging and harmful UV rays. In addition to sunscreen, protect yourself with a hat, sunglasses and sun-protective clothing.
