What happens to the hands as we age?

Age we age, we see changes in the hands. Like the face, where we lose volume in areas such as the cheeks, we also lose youthful volume on the backs of the hands. This makes the tendons and veins more and more visible. In addition, sun damage creates wrinkles and dark spots on the surface of the hands.

How do you reverse aging in the hands?

The skin on the hands can be treated very much like the skin on the face. Volume loss can be addressed with fillers and sun damage can be addressed with laser treatments, such as Forever Young BBL® and skin care products.

When do you see results with hand rejuvenation?

With filler, results in the hands are seen right away. There is an initial amount of swelling that goes away after about two weeks, which is when you can see the final results and represents the best time to reassess the hands to see if more filler is required. After the Forever Young BBL® treatment, dark spots often get darker before they get lighter. Sometimes you see a coffee ground appearance that then flakes off. Other times the pigment is absorbed by the skin. This can take up to two weeks to clear.

 Does the hand rejuvenation treatment hurt?

An anesthetic is injected into the back of the hand during filler treatment to keep you comfortable. We help limit swelling, minimize bruising, improve safety, and decrease healing time by using the cannula technique when placing filler. In addition, a topical numbing cream is applied to the backs of the hands to keep you comfortable during the Forever Young BBL® laser treatment.

How long do the hand rejuvenation results last?

Most people enjoy the results of fillers in the hands for six to twelve months. The more active you are with your hands the more frequently you will require a maintenance treatment. For the dark spots, most people enjoy results with just a single Forever Young BBL® treatment, but some people require a series of treatments. After that, maintenance treatments are done as required. In addition, protecting your hands from further sun exposure with a high quality, zinc-based sunscreen and keeping out of the sun entirely will help to minimize the need for retreatment.

 Am I a good candidate for hand rejuvenation?
